Alicia D'Souza
I am currently in my first postdoctoral position at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Manchester following a PhD in cardiac physiology. My research is funded by the British Heart Foundation and examines the cardiac conduction system in health and disease with special emphasis on the effect of exercise on arrythmogenesis. The theme of collaborative and multidisciplinary research is pervasive in my career plan; I maintain fruitful collaborations with other scientists in the UK, Europe and Japan and enjoy networking and exchanging ideas at conferences. I am therefore keen to contribute to the all-important process of scientific interaction that the BSCR provides and bring to the table the perspective of a young scientist in the field. I would be particularly interested in strengthening links between younger members of the Society with a view to growing and sustaining a dynamic cardiovascular research community.
