Ambassador Update: Dr Mairi Brittan
BHF Intermediate Basic Science Research Fellow
Centre for Cardiovascular Science, University of Edinburgh
I am a BHF Intermediate Fellow based at the Centre for Cardiovascular Science at the University of Edinburgh. The focus of my group’s research is on understanding the endogenous cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate vascular regeneration by resident endothelial cells in the adult heart after myocardial infarction. Current research methods include multispectral lineage tracing mouse models with surgical models of myocardial infarction and heart failure, single cell transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics and human endothelial cell culture and functional in vitro analyses. I studied for my PhD at Cancer Research UK, London and undertook postdoctoral fellowships at the Blizard Institute, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the Centre for Inflammation Research, University of Edinburgh. I have three young children and enjoy pilates, running and photography. I have been a General Committee Member of the BSCR since 2019.
